On-Page SEO Basics

1 min read

On-page SEO means optimizing the elements directly under your control on the page itself, so Google and readers understand what it's about quickly and accurately.

Title tag and meta description

The title tag is the most important on-page signal — keep it short, descriptive, and unique. The meta description doesn't directly affect rankings, but it does raise click-through rate.

  • Give every page a unique title.
  • Lead with the primary keyword near the start of the title.
  • Keep the meta description around 150 characters and relevant to the page.

Content structure and headings

Use one H1, then H2s and H3s to break the page into logical sections — this makes it easier for readers to scan and for search engines to understand.

Google favors content written for people. Link to related pages on your own site, and use descriptive anchor text instead of "click here."
